Staff Shortage Complaint

(N.Z. Preu AMOCtation) AUCKLAND. May 26. Nearly Auckland children ere receiving "be-kw-stondterd education” beceuse of the present staffing crisis to the schools, says the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute. An analysis of the position has been made by the president of the branch (Mr R. L. Rogers). Schools opened for the second term this wJek with six without teachers and more than 300 relieving teachers pressed into awviee. “Provision was made for Claeses without teachers by doubling up classes or dividing a teacher’s time between two Jots of children, according to newspaper reports.” said Mr Rogers. "That means 480 children are involved. 'Three hundred relieving teachers means that 300 classes have recurring changes of staff and, generally speaking, less than a fair deal educationally. This means that a further 12.000 children are involved," he said.
