TROTTING FRONT LINE PICKED FOR WIN

Open Field In Addington Handicap Today Front Line, one of the best four-year-old trotters of the current season, is selected to win the Addington Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting at Addington today. Front Line is one of three form horses from R. Young’s team engaged in this race, the other two being Graeme Scott and John Black. The bracket is certain to be a firm favourite, but its members will not have things their own way as the field includes some highly-promising intermediate-class trotters.

Front Line, a brother to Rattle Cry, has trotted some magnificent races this season, but has been a difficult horse to keep sound. If he trots up to his best, he should be too good for most in the race. Graeme Scott has had a win end a second in recent weeks Jn his only starts in New Zealand. He is a capable trotter, but might not be as solid as some of his rivals. John Black, too. is capable on his day and should be prorn- . in en t. Flying Paddy was most impressive when he won twice at Forbury Park recently. He looks likely to take a high ranking and should be capable of taking a prominent part in the finish of this race. Our Own. the top-ranked three-year-old of the season. Is certain to be improved by the race she had at Washdyke last week. She is a grand type of trotter and is expected to earn some of t the stake. Pohutukawa. which has had three wins from his last four starts, trotted well enough at last week's Addington trials to be considered a sound prospect. The Johnny Globe four-year-old looks to have a bright future. Control, from Wyndham, has had four wins and four placings from nine starts this season. He has not met such stern opposition as he will encounter in this field, but some of the times he has recorded on slow Southland track® have been outstanding. He eould well upset calculations. Capable Mare Court Out's record this season has not been outstanding.

but she is a capable trotter. She was fourth in a fastrun two miles at Methven last month at her most recent appearance and that could be the forerunner of an early win. Wairau King, which has finished second in his last three starts. Chances Are and Superway are others capable of adding interest to the finish.

Front Line’s trainer. R. Young, will have a great chance of gaining a further win with Glenoware in the Final Handicap, which will be run over 10 furlongs. Young drove Glenoware when he won over two miles in 4min lOsec at Addington on April 1 and he has trained him since then. Glenoware gave a dashing display of pacing at last week's trials and it will be surprising if he fails to make another bold showing for Mr H J. Forward. who purchased him for a substantial price about 12 months ago. Medoro Star and Falsehood will form a strong bracket, with Medoro Star appealing most of the pair. He is usually most reliable and should be close to the lead throughout.

The smart Southland three-year-old. Flying Note, looks better placed on the front mark than he has been for some time. He is a grand pacer and should not be troubled if the track is soft. Another Southland pacer. Lauder Scott, which has had three wins from his last four starts, is expected to appreciate an easy track. There was merit in his win at. Washdyke last week and he could easily repeat that effort in his present form. Schnapps, Medium Blue. Tryst. Dark Signal and Florite will be other place prospects in a fairly open field. The double will be run on the Winter and Members’ Handicaps. Zany and Moon Boy forming a likely combination. Unsettled weather is forecast and even if there is no further heavy rain, the track will be on the soft side.
