COMMISSION TO INQUIRE

(From Our Oim Reporter) WELLINGTON, May 26. A Royal CommiMion to inquire into the Public Service is likely to be established after Cabinet decisions which may be made on Monday. The Minister of Labour (Mr Shand) today confirmed that the Obinet sub-commit-tee on administration, of which he is chairman, had prepared a report on the subject. which would be considered at Monday's meeting of the Cabinet. The commission is expected to extend its investigation more widely than was recommended by Sir William Dunk, a former head of the Australian Civil Service, who made an investigation into the problem last year. It is understood that the terms of reference of the commission to be appointed l will include investigations; into departmental structure, I provision of wider salary i gradings, and a close review of the appeal system. The appeal review, it is under- 1 stood, has been asked for by caucus after the reversal of several appointments in the last two years.
