PIT STOPS
When the veteran speedway and racing driver, Dick Campbell, left Christchurch recently, local enthusiasts shook their heads at his intention to return to the speedway league in Scotland. Campbell rode on the speedway many years ago when he first went to Scotland on a visit, and on his return to New Zealand distinguished himself on motorcycles and in cars. Now a real veteran, Campbel] has proved many of the local pundits wrong. He has risen to the top I bracket of Scottish speedway riders only a few I months after his departure I from New Zealand. Rid- ' ing for Edinburgh, he has I scored maximum points at j every meeting except two, • and has broken the existI ing Edinburgh track record. So far this season, he is the top points scorer in the whole of the Scottish league.
| Two of Australia's leadI ing drivers. Lex Davison and Bob Stillwell, will drive in this year’s Le [Mans 24-hour race on June 110. Davison is a former Australian champion and three times winner of the . Australian Grand Prix, and ' Stillwell also has several ! major successes to his I credit. The two drivers! | will pilot a Zagato-bodiedj Aston Martin for a pri-.vately-sponsored British team. Aston Martins have ! won the event for the last I two years, but after last I year's race, the factory announced its retirement! from racing.
