MANANUI IN FORM

Schooling At Wingatui

"The Press" Spectal Service DUNEDIN, May 25. A fintt-claes school by Mananui (R. O. Cairns) and Raglan (R. A. Low) enhanced Wingatui stables' prospects of a win in the Studholme Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase, the feature jumping event at the Waimate Racing Club's meeting on Saturday. These two members at H. A. Anderton's team are well seasoned for their task. Mananui was a last-start winner over country at Ashburton and his stablemate raced twice as a hurdler at Invercargill for a third and a fourth. Mananui is the early favourite for the Studholme Steeplechase. From the manner in which Raglan completed the assignment, over six steeplechase fences at a sound pace, it would take little improvement on his part to feature in the prize money. Pot Luck f B. E. Kennedy), another Wingatui candidate for the event, also completed his preparation in a workmanlike style. He accompanied his stablemate. Depend (R. A. Low) in an attractive school over four steeplechase fences. Depend has taken kindly to his new role and had no trouble in earning a qualification ticket. , Surhine <B N. Blair) also earned a ticket as a jumper and is eligible to start as a hurdler at the Dunedin meeting. Sizzler <R. W. Gould) was . more impressive than Cornflake (R. Crowe) over two fences. Sizzler is an experienced jumper and looks well for his bid in the Waihao Hack Hurdles, an event in which Cornflake will have his first test as a jumper. The highlight of the schooling at Wingatui this morning was the brilliant solo effort of Master Ascot (S. J. Diack) over six fences at a sound pace. The Massowa gelding measured each fence the same and his bold and dashing display was near perfect. He is an interesting candidate for the hack steeplechases at the Dunedin meeting next month.
