Ban On League Game Lifted
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, May 25.
Because of the Wellington City Council's general policy of not allowing organised sport on Sundays, the Wellington Rugby League fixture with West Coast on Sunday was in jeopardy until today.
The council, however, on the understanding that the game was not a formal interprovincial representative match, but an opportunity for the New Zealand selector, Mr E. McKenzie, to see the players in action, decided today to reverse an earlier decision forbidding the match, on condition that there was no advertising, no entrance charge, and no collection. The League's Board of Control has been refused permission for a Sunday game at Queen's Birthday week-end as part of a quadrangular tournament However, it will hold it* Sunday match in the quadrangular tournament in Petone, outside Wellington.
