NAUTICAL THEME AT BALL
Banks Peninsula Cruising Club
A nautical theme was a feature of the decorations at the Winter Garden recently, when the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club held its annual ball. A dinghy, lifejacket and lifebuoy stood in the foyer, and in the ballroom code flags were displayed. Alcoves were decorated with lifebuoys and topical sketches. About 370 persons were welcomed by Commodore H H. Hannah and Mrs Hannah. Specially invited guests included Captain J. N. Allen and Mrs Allen. Mr and Mrs I. Currie (Charteris Bay Yacht Club), Mr F. Simpson (Christchurch Yacht Club), and Miss J. Hall.
Mrs Hannah wore a gown of forest green made in a princess line style. It featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and ruched panels front and back. The wife of the Rear Commodore (Mrs J. Buick) chose a short gown of midnight blue satin with a strapless draped bodice, and swathed skirt finished at the waistline with a spray of blue flowers.
Mrs Allen wore a crystalette gown in green and violet tonings. It was styled with a fitting bodice trimmed with sequins, and a full skirt.
Members of the ball committee included Mesdames J. Buick, L. Collingwood, A. G. Corrick, H. H. Hannah, J Harrison, A. H. Laban, A. J Lugg, M. McClurg. P. G Mangos. E. B. Payton. A. D Stemmer. J. Talbot, E Tanner. G. I. Treleaven, Messrs H. H. Hannah (chairman), A H. Laban, E. B. Payton, M Prendergast, and G. R. Towart.
