Group Captain C. F. Gray
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, May 22.
One of New Zealand's bestknown air aces of World War 11, Group Captain C. F. Gray. D. 5.0., D.F.C.. arrived in Wellington today in the Gothic from Southampton. Group Captain Gray is only one of many New Zealanders attaining top Royal Air Force jobs in the Air Ministry. Others, like himself, have retired at a comparatively young age, after a hectic youth.
He could not really give an explanation for the success of New Zealanders.
"I suppose it is just because they have the qualifications in the aviation business,” he said.
Group Captain Gray left the Air Force at his own request. He could have stayed, but his five children range in age from 10 to 19 and had he remained longer they would have settled down in England. he said.
Group Captain Gray is not yet sure where he will settle or what he will do. It will not be farming, though he once farmed in the Palliser Bay area.
