WAITAKI COUNTY POPULATION
Increase Of Almost 3000
An increase in population of -almost 3000, or 37 per cent., is shown by the Waltaki county, according to preliminary 1961 census figures issued by the Department of Statistics. The county includes the new Otematata village built to serve the labour force engaged on the Benmore hydro - electric power project The present population of the county is 11,018. One county town. Sockburn, returned a population approaching 5000.
