WELLINGTON, May 22
Members of the Monetary and Economic Council today met the Governor of the Reserve Bank, Mr E. C. Fussell, and his deputy, Mr A. R. Low.
This afternoon the council had talks with the Government Statistician, Mr J. V. T. Baker, and the president of the Federation of Labour, Mr F. P. Walsh.
The council will see representatives of the Meat and Wool Boards. tomorrow. Members will also meet representatives of the New Zealand Bankers’ Association, Retailers' Federation. Manufacturers’ Association and the Department of Labour. On Wednesday the council will have talks with the Secretary of Industries and Commerce, Dr. W. B. Sutch. representatives of the Dairy Board and Dairy Products Marketing Commission. Treasury officials and the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) Next Week
The president and secretary of Associated Chambers of Commerce have been invited to meet the council next week.
The council next week will also see representatives of the Public Service Association, the United Kingdom Manufacturers’ and New Zealand Representatives’ Association. the New Zealand Master Builders’ Federation, the New Zealand Employers' Federation and the Comptroller of Customs. The council has already advertised for a chief executive officer and it will appoint another two officers later. The chairman (Professor F. W. Holmes) said the secretariat would probably not be established before August. The council does not expect to get its own officers till about then. The council plans to hold meetings in other cities.
“I'm quite sure all the wisdom of New Zealand Is not centred in Wellineton,” Professor Holmes said.
