Observance Of
Special Week
Commonwealth Technical Training Week, first suggested by the Duke of Edinburgh as a means of fostering technical training for those leaving school, will open in Christchurch on May 29
The opening function will be a civic luncheon at which the Mayor (Mr G. Manning' and the president of the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association (Mr J. K. Dobson) will speak. The boy head prefect of the Christchurch Technical College. Warwick NicoL will reply to Mr Manning's speech. Roman Catholic and Protestant churches will ob. serve the week in services on May 28 two of which will be broadcast. The morning sermon will be given by the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. Martin Sullivan) and the ehairman of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Churches (the Rev H. G Brown) will preach the sermon of the evening service. Six of the 47 displays to be placed in shop windows will be working models. The displays will be provided by the armed services, industrial organisations and Government departments Talks will be given several parentteacher associations. Visits to factories by school parties have been organised and the RNZ A F station. Wigram. will be visited on June 1.
It is hoped that a short film about the week will televised. The film is being sent to Christchurch.
