Training Week Display

A display of Post Office engineering equipment is to be on show in Scott's Garage. Gloucester street, during Commonwealth Technical Training Week as the Post Office’s contribution to the week’s activities. The display wall begin on May 29 and finish on June 2.

Features of the display will be a teleprinter working in the street window, probably connected to the New Zealand Press Association network. and a new modern trenching machine which has not yet been put into service. The display will be in four sections, depicting the work of the radio section, the exchange equipment and telegraph staffs, the workshops, and the lines and cable branch.

The radio display will cover both mobile urban and toll services. There will be a comprehensive coverage of various types of cable duct and armoured and plasticeovered cables, as well as partially - completed cable joints, and a modern private automatic branch exchange (P.A.8.X.). It is hoped to have on view also a small automatic - start standby engine of the type used to take over in the case of power failure.
