TOUGH FLIES

Some strains of flies tested at the Wallaceville animal research station required up to 400 times the usual dose of dieldrin to kill them, Dr. L. K. Whitten, parasitologist at the station, told the farmers’ conference at Lincoln this week when he was discussing blowfly resistance to dieldrin. Under these conditions it was quite impossible to go on using dieldrin and aldrin, he added, but fortunately all strains so far tested were susceptible to the organophosphorus compounds.
