PEOPLE IN THE PLAY
The All Black front row forward, M. W Irwin, will be playing club Rugby in Gisborne today. Irwin, who played three games for University in the Christchurch senior competition early in
the season, now has a position as a house surgeon at the Gisborne Hospital. Although Irwin comes from Gisborne, this is the first time he has played senior Rugby there. Previously he played for Otago University from 1953 to 1959.
M. C. Hedley and Mrs H. Lovegrove have etablished the fine record of winning the Cashmere Tennis Club’s mixed doubles championship for eight years in succession. This season they beat the strong pair of B. J. Shirlaw and Miss J. Davidson in the final, 6-3, 8-10, 7-5, and in each of the three previous seasons they beat R. Minson and Mrs A. Ryan in the final, ® gs W
A former well-known Wellington and Petone first five - eighths. J. G. Dougan, is now playing at full-back for the Titahi Bay second grade team. Dougan was a member of the Wellington team which won the shield from Canterbury in 1956.
Mrs Jean Mcßae (nee Fuller'), a former Canterbury basketball captain, is this year playing goalattack for Wellington Y.W.C.A., where her form has been outstanding on the rebound. Mrs Mcßae is not available for the Wellington team.
