"The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL. May 19. War Chime, a four-year-old War Game mare from Carillon, by Lo Zingaro, was top price at 185gns at a sale of thoroughbred stock at Invercargill today. War Chime, which has been three times second and once third in novice fields as a member of W. F. Ellis’s team this season, was bought by Mr H. Kirk, of Kelso, who also bought her dam Carillon, the dam also of Caraval. A good type of two-vear-old Kurdistan gelding 'from the Super mare. Patina, a sister to an Invercargill Gold Cup winner in Suphero, which won eight races and £3340 in stakes, was the second top-priced lot at 180gns.
Main vendors of the sale were the estate of the late Mr W. Swale, of Limebills, and Irving Bros., of Invercargill. The market dragged from the outset and there was little interest in the sale, which included some outstanding lots. There was only a small attendance and the weather was wintry.
