The School offers courses to students taking physics at the B.Sc. and honours levels, and also to those undertaking research work for the degree of M. and Ph. D.. in the Faculty of Science. Physics is also taught to first and second year students in other Faculties. The school is active in research, particularly in the fields of solar-furnace high-tempera-ture studies, N.M.R., acoustics, and gas-discharge physics, and in aspects of solid-state physics, including X-ray crystallography, dielectric breakdown. lowenergy electron diffraction, and vacuum-ultraviolet studies of surfaces. Facilities for research work of staff and post-graduate students are good. There are well-equipped mechanical, electrical. and optical workshops, and the University has a large electronic digital computer IUTECOM, an English Electric DEUCE machine). SENIOR LECTURERS OR LECTURERS SCHOOL OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES THE University of New South Wales invites applications for appointment to the positions of Senior Lecturers or Lecturers in Botany in the School of Biological Sciences. The successful applicants will be expected to teach to graduate level and supervise postgraduate research activities, as well as give some assistance with elementary botanical training. Applicants should have a sound training in botany, some post-graduate research experience, and at least the following academic qualifications:— Senior Lecturers: A higher degree or equivalent qualifications.
