PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES
Facilities At Sunnyside
That some psychiatric outpatient services were already provided by medical staff of the Division of Mental Health appeared to have been overlooked in an article which appeared in the May 10 issue of “The Press” on the new psychiatric outpatient service at the Christchurch Hospital, says a letter from the Director of the Division of Mental Health Department (Dr. G. Blake-Palmer). This new service, which was in accordance with the recommendations of the committee on psychiatric services in public hospitals of the Board of Health, was welcomed by the division, Dr. Blake-Palmer said. However, for many years, the doctors of Sunnyside Hospital had provided an outpatient consulting service to public hospitals in North and South Canterbury.
Recently, there had been increasing use made of outpatient facilities at Sunnyside Hospital itself, and it was the intention of the division to continue the service, he said.
