British Moves On E.E.C. INZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 18. The New Zealand Government was in almost daily communication with the British Government on the question of Britain joining the European Common Market. the Prime Minister (Mr Holvoake) said tonight.

The Prime Minister said he had a long message from the British Prime Minister <Mr Harold Macmillan) last night and also a report from the New Zealand High Commissioner in London (Mr T L. McDonald).

Mr Holyoake. who was answering questions at a press conference, did not reveal the contents of the messages.

”1 can only repeat earlier assurances that we will be consulted about the United Kingdom joining the Common Market.” he said. “If the United Kingdom joins without making compen satory arrangements for New Zealand produce it will be disastrous—as I have said earlier. I made this clear when I was in London and I have repeated it to the British Government since.” he added.

Answering questions. Mr Holyoake said he could see no need for him to go to London again to discuss the matter with the British Government.
