Salvation Army Appeal
Although primarily a religious and evangelistic organisation, the Salvation Army has, by its social and welfare work in the field of practical Christianity, won a public regard that transcends denominational attachments. It is for this work that the Salvation Arnjy seeks funds from the public today. The help it gives to the community’s less fortunate members hardly needs to be catalogued. Skilled and dedicated men and women give
understanding assistance to unmarried mothers, alcoholics, children from broken homes. People in the even-
tide of their lives are enabled to spend happy hours in Salvation Army homes; persons who have expiated offences against society in gaol are offered a helping hand on their return to the community. In brief, the Salvation Army fulfils for the community a multitude of the community’s humane responsibilities - and duties. By the generosity of their response in past years Christchurch people have shown that they recognise a debt to the Salvation Army. There is no doubt that the response to today’s appeal will give similar recognition.
