BUS SERVICE TO CITY
New Baisweil Route Approved
A new continuous pas-senger-service licence has been granted to W. and H. Motors, Ltd.. Lincoln, by the No. 9 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. S. Haywood' for a passenger service from Halswell to Christchurch and return each Saturday evening.
The service will operate from Legg's Corner. Halswell. via Stillwell's Store, the Halswell Hotel. Littian street, Nottingham avenue. Checketts avenue, Ensign street. Dunbars road. Main road, and return, departing at 7 p.m. and returning at 11 p.m. each Saturday. The company's application for the licence was heard in Christchurch on April 26. Mr N. G. Hattaway appeared for tlie company, Mr L. C. Brown for the Railways Department. Mr W. K. L. Dougall for the Christchurch Transport Board, and Mr J. N. Matson for Midland Motorways Services. Ltd., each of which opposed the application. In his reserved decision Mr Haywood said he was of the view that the proposed grant may be the subject of review in the event of any material effect upon the Transport Board’s operations. At the original hearing Mr Dougall had expressed concern about infringement of the service on the Christchurch Metropolitan Transport District, in particular Dunbars road within one mile of the Transport Board bus terminus.
"I find that the proposed service fully satisfies me upon the grounds of being necessary or desirable in the public interest as applied to Halswell residents,” Mr Haywood said.
