WON ON PROTEST

N.Z. Rider In Australia

(N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. May 18.

A young New Zealand jockey who came to Australia to attend his brother’s wedding won a race on a protest at the Kembla Grange provincial meeting late yesterday. He is Peter Ryan, aged 22, who had to borrow a saddle, leathers and irons to take the mount on Flierwings, on which he finished second. Flierwings was beaten by a head by Glenwilliam (J. Thompson) in the seven-fur-long First Maiden Handicap, but was later awarded the race on a protest. Ryan will be best man at his brother’s weddung at nearby Corrimal, on the south coast, next Saturday.
