It pays to know carpet Is “axminster” a brand of carpet or a type of carpet? Many people believe Axminster to be a brand of carpet made in England. Although much Axminster is made in England, the word Axminster refers to a type of carpet, named after the loom it is made on. You probably didn’t realise that much of the Axminster carpet in stores today is made right here in New Zealand. Riccarton carpets, Axminsters and Wiltons are being made in Christchurch by the same people who make carpet in England, South Africa, and Australia.
