Mr W. C. Aitken To Retire Today

Mr W. C. Aitken, assistant goods manager (administration) of the Railways Department in Christchurch, who will retire today, used horses to shunt waggons when he joined the department in 1921. He worked first at "A” shed in Carlyle street.

Mr Aitken’s 40 years’ service have all been in Canterbury. In 1939 Mr Aitken became a clerk in the Christchurch goods office. In 1946 he became an assistant claims clerk in the district office and was appointed claims officer in 1955. He was appointed to his present position in 1956. At a farewell function to-

day the goods manager (Mr H. M. P. Baker) will make a presentation to Mr Aitken on behalf of the staff.
