Sir,—Mr Palmer says that owners have not earned the increased value of their property, so let us apply his theory to workers. Twentyfive years ago eight hours’ honest effort was worth about £l. Today for half the effort it is worth about £3, but as they have done less, not more, to get the extra, it should be confiscated. Similarly, if a speculator had bought and sold the property he mentioned he would have a £63.000 cash profit, which as a capital gain would not be taxable, but the man who tried to keep the property for his family would be faced with £27.000 death duties on money he would never see in this world or the next. True socialism robs the triers to carry the drones—Yours, etc, QUEER JUSTICE. May 17, 1961.
