PARKING METERS
Extension Of Area Parking meters in Manchester street between St. Asaph street and Moorhouse avenue were showing a poor average return of 3s fid a week, and the committee was considering removing them from part of the street, the traffic committee told the City Council last evening. An investigation indicated that there was a need for parking meters in the following streets:—High street between Tuarn street and Madras street: Tuam street, Manchester street to Madras street; Lichfield street, Manchester street to Madras street; Hereford street, south side, Manchester street to Madras street, north side. Manchester street to Latimer square; Liverpool street: Worcester street, Manchester street to Latimer square: Gloucester street, south side. Manchester street to Latimer square, north side. Manchester street to Madras street; Armagh street. Manchester street to Madras street; Oxford terrace. Manchester street to the Centennial Pool. A petition had been received from businesses in Lower High street asking for meters, and the council agreed with the committee that they be installed there on both sides of the street between Tuam street and Madras street. Approximately 20 would be required. When they had been installed, the traffic superintendent (Mr G. P. Kellar) would report on the number which would be available from Manchester street south and from stock, so that a recommendation could be made on the next priority for the streets listed. The committee estimated that 280 meters would be needed to cover the whole block, including High street.
Once meters were installed in Hereford street, it was the committee's intention to recommend a 60minute limit in Latimer square west.
