Petition For Poll
Residents Affiliated petitioned the City Council last evening to hold a poll to de-
termine the site for a town hall.
The petition, which was referred to the town hall committee, asked that before a poll was taken the council should announce the type of town hall “or city hall” contemplated and the amenities to be provided.
A public meeting should be held or other means taken to make known to electors all the information available on the town hall proposals before a poll was taken. the organisation suggested. The council was asked not to take any steps to take property until a poll had been held, and then, if any form of acquisition became absolutely necessary. the council should consider asking Parliament for special legislation to ensure the validity of any such steps.
