Foot abscess was one of the major problems today. Footrot had nothing on it. Research should be done on it, and very soon, too, said Mr J. V. McCracken at yesterday’s annual conference of the meat and wool section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers. The conference carried the following remit from the Sefton and Districts branch: That Federated Farmers ask that the research stations intensify research into illthrift and foot disease in sheep, particularly foot abscess. The conference also carried the following remit from the Banks Peninsula branch: "That in view of the heavy incidence of pink eye in sheep on Banks, Peninsula the Department of Agriculture be strongly urged to intensify research into the disease.'* Synthetics And Wool Synthetics were the biggest enemy of wool and yet the Government was allowing them into the country at a ridiculously low duty, said Mr L. E. Taylor, at the annual conference yesterday of thj meat and wool section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers. Mr Taylor moved a remit from the Oxford branch “that the duty on woollen goods be reduced to the level of the duty on synthetics.” This was seconded by Mr D. G. McGrath and carried.
