EDUCATION OVERSEAS

Investigation By Officers

(N.Z Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 10. The secretary of the Commission on Education (Dr K. J. Sheen) and the commission’s research officer (Mr W L. Renwick) will go over, seas later this year to investigate specific educational matters on behalf of the commission, the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) said today. The Government had made this decision in response to a very strong recommendation from the commission, he said. “The purpose of the visit is to obtain detailed information on certain policies and procedures followed in various countries, particularly in regard to state aid to private schools, teacher training, religious instruction in State schools, recent developments in school curricula, and the educational provision made for non-academic pupils and for children of high intelligence.” Mr Tennent said. “Much of this information is difficult to obtain bycorrespondence and almost impossible to evaluate from the written word alone,” he said.
