A New Zealander is in Sydney looking for the two fastest shovellers in Australia. He is Mr Peter Brookfield, a representative of an Auckland contracting firm, which plans to stage the first shovellers' world championship at Auckland’s next Easter show. Australia's two best will be invited to compete for poize money expected to total £5OO. The winner will be the first to shovel a ton of blue metal into a hopper. Mr Brookfield said that shovelling contests were staged under different conditions in the two countries. “I am here to look for your two best and also to study the conditions under, which your contests ate held,” he added.

Girl’s Condition Serious

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 10.

The condition of 8-year-old Paula Berry who was flown to Auckland from Norfolk Island yesterday suffering from meningitis is still very serious, the Auckland Hospital reported today. The girl was brought to Auckland in a Royal New Zealand Air Force Bristol freighter which left Whenuapai at 3 aun. and returned at 1 pun.
