One out of the Box

Every cloud is supposed to have a silver lining, and even the gloomiest round of golf can produce something startling. A notable example of this occurred at the Kaiapoi course during the week-end, when G. S. Henderson, who is in his first season of golf, accumulated a total of 113 strokes for the round. He had an unhappy first half and, observing the Kaiapoi custom, retired for tea and rumination. But when he stepped on to the first tee again—it is also the tenth something happened to him. He struck a 3 iron so truly that the ball, pitching Just before the green, ran into the hole. The only unfortunate aspect of the incident was that Henderson did not see the ball disappear. He was busy searching for his tee.
