DATES FOR TROTS

Clubs Seek Objection (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 9. The Auckland District Committee, at the request of country racing clubs, has forwarded a request to the New Zealand Racing Conference that an official objection be made to the New Zealand Trotting Conference concerning the dates of certain night trotting meetings. The request was made by the district committee when forwarding to the Racing Conference the applications! for racing dates tor the 196162 season. A statement released by the district committee said: “Racing clubs concede the right of a trotting club to transfer a day meeting to a night meeting, provided the latter is held on the longestablished date for that club. “But complications have arisen, mainly owing to country trotting clubs transferring meetings to Auckland and changing their dates, thereby interferring with a system of dates which has become established over the years. “For instance, the Thames Trotting Club, which draws its membership from the Hauraki Plains area, changed its normal date and raced in Auckland on the same day as the Ohinemuri Jockey Club held its meeting at Pae. roa. "The difficulty has been accentuated by the transfer of five trotting permits—originally granted to provide local sport in country districts—which are concentrated in Auckland over a short season, but it is considered that the clash of dates affecting racing and trotting in the Auckland district could be easily overcome, to the advantage of both sports.”
