Values were generally unchanged on yesterday’s levels, and offerings were virtually all cleared at steady prices at the second day of the Melbourne wool sales today. There was confident and widespread bidding. with Japan prominent and good support from mainland China, while the United Kingdom was more noticeable. Crossbred prices: Good to super, 56’s, 74d per lb; good to super, 50’s, 72d. Other Sales Values were generally unchanged on yesterday's buoyant levels at the Brisbane sales today. Japan and the Iron Curtain countries continued to buy the bulk of the wool, with some support from the Continent and Britain. Values appeared about 15 per cent, higher than at the last Fremantle sales in March, at the opening day of the current Fremantle sales today. Competition was keen and widespread, with Japan dominating the bidding. Personal.— Mr J. T. Eltoft has been appointed manager for the South Island by the General Accident, Fire, and Life Assurance Corporation. Ltd. Mr C. P. Dixon has been appointed manager at Christchurch, and Mr I. E. King manager at Dunedin.
