Tulloch Given 9.12 In Brisbane Cup
(N.Z Press Assoctotion—Coppriont)
BRISBANE, May 9. Australia’s record stake winner Tulloch was today given a gilt-edged invitation to run in the £12,815 Brisbane Cup (2m.) on June 12 when the handicapper gave him only 9-12 in the big race.
The Sydney Cup winner Sharply has 8-4. In the Sydney Cup Tulloch carried 9-13 and was beaten by three-quarters of a length by Sharply, which had 7-9. Tulloch has tried to win two two-mile handicaps—the Melbourne Cup with 10-1 and the Sydney Cup—but has failed both times. The Brisbane Cup field this eyar is well below the standard of the Melbourne or Sydney Cup fields. The New Zealand stayer Waipari has already arrived in Australia for the Brisbane Cup. Good N.Z. Form He has 8-12, which is lib less than he carried when he finished second in the Metropolitan last year. He later failed in the Caulfield Cup, but his recent form in New Zealand has been encouraging. Aladdin’s Lamp, with only 7-5, appeals as a lightweight, while the New Zealander Sol d'Or appeals with 8-1. In the Stradbroke the New Zealander Fountainhead is well handicapped with 9-1 He failed last year in both the Stradbroke and Doomben Ten Thousand and more recently in the Doncaster. But between those failures he equalled the Australian and New Zealand record for six furlongs. A strong team of Victorian sprinters Aquanita, My Peak, Wallgar. Queen of the May. and Samson—is almost certain to contest the Stradbroke.
