Auckland Asks For Permits

f.VZ Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 9. The Auckland Racing Club has applied, through the Auckland District Committee, for four additional permits to enable twilight meetings to be held mid-week at Ellerslie. It is proposed that the meetings will begin in the late afternoon, the number of races to depend on the time of sunset on each particular day. It is likely that at least six races would be run at each meeting. A statement issued by the club says it is the intention of the club to hold the twilight meetings with a view to overcoming the “present serious shortage of race dates in relation to the number of horses in training, which is causing hardship to owners whose horses, although trained and ready to race, are eliminated owing to excessive acceptances.” Other racing clubs in the district also intend to apply for additional dates, says the stat4iment
