DISPOSAL OF BUILDINGS
Discussion By Fire Board
Tenders should be called for the sale of the buildings when the time came to dispose of the Centra] Fire Station in Lichfield street, Mr A. S. Hollander said at a meeting of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board last! evening. His comment came after the board’s secretary (Mr S. F Marshall) reported on discussions he had with a city land agent on the sale of the property. Mr Marshall said the board pad only sought advice on the best method of disposing of the fire station when the time came to move into the new fire station. The land agent had advised that the newer flats should be sold separately in one lot and the rest of the buildings in another if that was possible, he said. Mr Marshall said he was told the best way of selling the buildings would be to auction them. Mr Hollander said he didi not favour selling the board’s! assets by auction. “The only way to put the property up for sale is by ' tender,” he said. Mr J. R. Smith said that , public auction of the buildings was the only way of getting good competition for any sale. ( The chairman <Mr W. R Campbell) said that disposal ’ of the board's assets mu«t 1 be referred to the Fire Ser- < vice Council and discussed i with it j “I think it would be pre- 1 mature to reach any decision P this evening,” he added.
