1935 LETTER FOUND
Dismantling Of Postal Van
(N.Z. Press Association)
DANNEVIRKE, May 8.
A letter that “rode the rails” for 26 years was returned unopened to its writer, Mr S. Monrad, of Tiratu, Dannevirke, recently.
The letter, which Mr Monrad had written to h-.s mother in Napier and mailed in November, 1935. was discovered jammed in the back of a railway postal van which was dismantled recently in Otahuhu Workshops, Auckland.
It was sent to a relative in Auckland, who in turn posted it to Mr Monrad with a covering letter describing its discovery. Although it was stained and faded, the letter was still readable. It was posted from Loch Maigh. Linton, a farm at which Mr Monrad was employed.
