Klemperer Speaks
Otto Klemperer is interviewed by John Freeman In “Talking About Music,’’ from 3YC at 8 o’clock tomorrow night. He denies that his powers as a conductor have been affected by his physical adversities. “A man can conduct with the hand,” he says, “but mostly one conducts with the eyes. “He talks about his career, the admiration he has for Gustav Mahler whose pupil he was in Vienna, and his ambition to be remembered as a composer. And what about his habit of walking out on another conductor’s concert—why does he do that? “Because it doesn't please me.”
