26 In Auckland's Pacific Shore

Twenty-six paintings by West Coast. American artists recently arrived in Auckland on the liner Mariposa for the Auckland City Art Gallery's “Painting in the Pacific” exhibition, during the Auckland Festival. The exhibition may be shown later in Christchurch. The first exhibition of its kind, it comprises works from Japan, Australia and New Zealand as well as the American .West Coast. Its aim is to show the unity among painters of the Pacific Basin countries.

The American paintings [Consist of 13 from the San Francisco Bay area. 10 from the Los Angeles area and three from Washington and Oregon. Artists represented include, Mark Tobey, Morris Graves, Richard Diebenkorn, Kenneth Callahan, Lorser Feitelson, Stanton Mac-Donald-Wright and Richards Ruben, whose 81in-by-81in oil is the largest of the American paintings.
