“Sufferers Should Stay In Bed”
People who have a cold, particularly if they are running a temperature, should keep it to themselves by staying in bed, the Christchurch Medical Officer of Health (Dr. L. F. .Jepson) said yesterday. Coughs, colds, and chest troubles were on the increase just now. he said.
“In particular, sufferers from these ills should not go on crowded buses or in other places where they are closely up against other people," Dr. Jepson added. “If going out is essential, they should wrap up and keep warm.
“The spread of infection to others can be minimised by such precautions as using paper disposable handkerchiefs, which can be burnt. It is most important also to cover the mouth during a cough or sneeze to prevent the spray going over other people."
