RETURN OF FRIGATE
“Strike-Breaking” Denied
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 3. HM.N.ZS. Pukaki will be back in Auckland on Monday, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) announced today. “With the restoration of normal conditions on Ocean Island, the Pukaki left Tarawa last' Saturday," he said. “On the voyage home the ship has been carrying out an investigation of a shoal reported on the shipping lane about 300 miles south-west of Funafuti." Mr Holyoake said. Mr Holyoake said that at no time had the Government any intention of permitting the frigate being used for “strike-breaking” purposes tn connexion with the industrial dispute between <the phosphate workers on Ocean Island and the management of the British Phosphate Commission. The responsibility for the settlement of the dispute by normal means of discussion and arbitration rested with the administration of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands * colony, and in no way with the New Zealand government. he said.
