U.S. VISAS REFUSED
N.Z. Delegates To 1.L.0.
(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 3. Delegates to the Federation of Labour annual conference today expressed their annoyance that their representatives. at last year’s International Labour Organisation conference could not obtain visas for the United States. After hearing a report from the two representatives, Mr P. H. Weitih and Mr A. Blacker, the conference passed a unanimous decision asking the F.O.L. executive to take the matter up with the Minister of External Affairs (Mr Holyoake), and the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions. The president of the F.O.L. (Mr F. P. Walsh) said tonight that one of the representatives had said it was harder to get a visa for the United States than it was for Heaven. “Even though they were clean shaven, the Americans apparently doubted that they were not supporters of Castro,” said Mr Walsh. He also said Mr Blacker had told the conference that the Americans had written to his wife to see if he was a Communist. “The last person you’d tell is your wife,” said Mr Blacker.
