TYRE AND LIGHT CHECKS
Vehicles Found Faulty
Random checks on motorvehicles last week by the Transport Department showed that of 270 motor-vehicles tested, 14 had insufficient lights, 17 had lights adjusted incorrectly, and nine had no tail-lamps. Three mpre had miscellaneous faults. Sixteen of the drivers received traffic offence notices The department will continue the checks until May 27, in an effort to reduce the number of defective vehicles on roads in the winter, r. were , also e * a mined Of 831 tyres, including spares, 52 were found smooth, and one was dangerous. Twenty-two cyclists among 118 were found riding without headlamps, 27 had no taillight, and 15 had no rear reflectors. Chief Traffic Officer E. Wilson, who gave the figures, said of the cycle checks: "A good number of prosecutions are impending.”
