PORT HILLS SCENERY

Planners Seek Protection

The proposal to put power cables underground at the Casa Peak radio station was being examined by the Commissioner of Works, the Minister of Works (Mr Goosman) has advised the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority. The executive committee of the authority recently asked the Minister for assistance in improving the co-ordination between the authority and departments with interests in the Port Hills, so that the authority would be informed of any proposed work at an early stage. The authority is particularly interested in the over-all effect of any structures on the landscape of the scenic areas. The chairman (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) reported to the authority yesterday that legal advice had been received and a report was being prepared on various methods that might be adopted for the preservation of the scenic amenities of the Port Hills.
