ENGLISH TROPHY
Two Challenges Received (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 2. Although only two challenges have been received so far, Auckland would have difficulty fitting in any further matches for the interprovincial soccer trophy, the English Trophy, said the Chairman of the Auckland Football Association (Mr R. A. Higgs) today. “Only two challenges for the supremacy of New Zealand soccer is most disappointing,” said Mr Higgs, “especially as they are from the two nearest “But if any more challenges are coming forward they will have to appear soon, as our season is already cramped with club championship, knock-out, and away representative games.”
The two challenges are matches against Waikato on July 15 and Bay of Plenty on August 19. Poverty Bay, which won the trophy from Auckland in 1959 but lost it last season, has not challenged.
