Mr D. G. Davis has been appointed a judge of the Maori Land Court in the Aotea district (Wanganui), and Mr B. Sheehan a judge of the Court in the Tairawhiti district (Gisborne). Mr Davis succeeds Judge G. M O’Malley, who will begin retirement leave on June 9 Mr Sheehan succeeds Judge N.' W. Smith, who is transferring to Rotorua with the elevation of Judge I. Prichard from that district to the position of Chief Judge of the Maori . Land Court—(PA.) Sympathy with the relatives of Cr. W. J. Cowles, a former member of the authority, and of Mr E. C. Powell, who reported many meetings of the authority for "The Press,” was expressed by the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority yesterday. Mr D. P. McLellan, formerly Waimairi county engineer, who has gone into private practice, has been invited to remain a member of the technical advisory committee of the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority. The county council has appointed Mr R. M Parker as its representative on the committee. Mr L. W. Fleetwood has been appointed to represent grain merchants on the Wheat Research Committee. He replace* Mr R. H. Cranfield. who has resigned after five years on the committee. Dr. I. J. Jeffery, assistant director of the Hospitals Division, Department of Health, has left for England on a World Health Organisation short-term fellowship. He will take a refresher course in biometry at Oxford University.—(PA.) Mr C. Hilgendorf, who represented Canterbury Agricultural College on the Wheat Research Committee, yesterday resigned from the committee. Mr P. D. Fourie arrived In the Dominion Monarch at Auckland yesterday from South Africa to do research at Ruakura Animal Research Station. He is on a year’s study leave from Cape Town University.—(P.A.) Dr P Meredith, of the wheat Research Institute, has been awarded a post-doctor- , ate fellowship by the , National Research Council of i Canada, and will work for a year in the Winnipeg Grs’n Research Laboratory.
