Advertising Signs On Highways

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 1

A move to prevent reflectorised advertising signs and hoardings on highways will be discussed by the halfyearly meeting of the New Zealand Road Safety Council on May 4. In some parts of the United States, traffic signs are almost inconspicious in contrast with high reflectorised hoardings. according to a report from the Commissioner of Transport (Mr A. E. Forsyth) which was considered at a recent meeting of the roads sub-committee of the Road Safety Council. In releasing this report yesterday, the chairman of the sub-committee, Dr. S. J. Thompson, said the need for some effective continuing control over the use of reflectorised material would be discussed. The National Roads Board had recommended legislation to restrict the use of reflective sheetings.
