Further Rise In Prices Prut SYDNEY, May 1. Animated and widespread competition from several countries pushed wool prices up another JH per eent at the Sydney wool sales today. The increase applied mainly to Merino fleece lines and better type shirtings. Most other descriptions were fully flrm on last Thursday's solid values. Japan led the buvfng, followed by Eastern European countries. Western Europe, and the United Kingdom. Crossbred prices were: good to average M’s, 74d; good to average 50's, 66 Hd.
Burns Philp, South Sea.— Bums Philp (South Sea) Company, Ltd., lifted its gross earnings from £798,910 to £780.930 (Fijian) in the year to January 31. but higher expenses trimmed net earnings by £16,172 to £146.863. Tax and other expenses took £902,892 (£481.751 last year», while depreciation vote was £88,930 (previous £ 73350 >. The steady 10 per cent cfiviend requires £lOO.OOO, and directors have transferred to reserves, lifting them to £ 1,515,266, compared with paid Capital of £1 million.— (N.ZPA.)
