£5 A Day At Gisborne <N.Z Press Association) GISBORNE, May 1 Every patient in the Cook Hospital cost the taxpayer £5 a - day, said Mr H. H. Barker at the board meeting today. It was staggering, he said, in discussing the 1961-62 estimates. "I can remember telling patients not to stay too long because they were costing us £2 a day,” said Mr Barker He said the cost In Lister Maternity Hospital was £7 daily. This “fairly heavy bill” was partly because three or four maternity institutions were being operated, a more costly procedure than one large maternity hospital. The chairman (Mr J. B Williams) said: "We have a good case for all maternity cases to be under one roof.”
