GRAPEFRUIT JUICE
N.Z. Canning Factory “The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, May 1. Kerikeri fruitgrowers recently signed a contract to supply grapefnffi to a Henderson factory which will can the juice. Until now, most of the grapefruit juice drunk in New Zealand has been imported. and thousands of locallygrown grapefruit have been wasted each year. Growers claim that the Carter’s navel orange on trifoliate stock, which they are now producing commercially. is as good as anything grown in other countries. It has a thin skin and plenty of juice. About 15.000 cases of these oranges, most of which are grown at Kerikeri, went on the market last year. They are also grown at Tauranga. A small factory at Kerikeri which candies fruit is providing an outlet for the products of some of the orchards.
