COMMUNITY CENTRE
Risingholme Growth The rise of membership in this community centre represented an interesting change that is taking place in this part of the city, said Mr N. E. Kirk, M.P., at the annual meeting of the Risingholme Community Centre. More young people were making their homes in a suburb that until recently had been populated by older citizens. “I know of no other centre that has widened its activities to cater for these young citizens,” he said. “The expansions planned for this year are ample proof of the vigorous life which is the keynote of the centre,” he said. “This year a glazing bay will be added to the pottery room. Plans are well ahead for the extension of the woodwork section. It is hoped that a new stairway to the projection box will soon replace the present outside ladder. “Risingholme is more alive than ever before. This is shown by the way new activities spring up to replace the ones in which interest has died,” he said. “Risingholme is the only community centre in New Zealand offering such a varied range of activities. Members can indeed be proud of their achievement in showing what can be done by willingness and mutual co-operation.” Mrs Florence Polhill, in recognition of her outstanding services to the centre, was elected to life membership. Other officers elected were: —Patron. Dr. D. E. Hansen; president, Mr L. Taylor: vice-president. Mr G. Clephane; honorary auditor, Miss C. J. McGregor; honorary treasurer. Mr H. Rushbridge; director, Miss J. Edgar; committee, Mesdames N. Glendinning, H. Smith, S. Claridge, S. Maleney. Messrs S. Roy, H. Dean T. Yuill, J. Willens, A. Wilson, Dr. D. E. Hansen.
